It’s a Japanese traditional underwear very comfortable and pleasant, made in a kimono fabric.
What is fundoshi ?
Fundoshi is Japanese traditional underwear. In historical times, these fabrics had high value, and only people of high societal status could wear it. Afterwards, fundoshi became the symbol of adulthood, and a boy was considered a man after wearing fundoshi while attending celebration called the “Fundoshi Festival.” Contrary to the long history of men’s fundoshi, women started wearing shorts in the postwar period. Before that, women wore loincloths called “yumoji” or “kedashi”. Kedashi is underwear to be shown and to cover yumoji. and beautiful pattern of clothes were used for kedashi.
Why fundoshi ?
Funfoshi is comfortable and lightweight.
Normal underwear is tight and uncomfortable. But silk fundoshi is easy to wear, breezy, cool in summer, warm in winter. The cloth is soft and covers the body gently. Fundoshi doesn’t have any elastic bands, so that makes fundoshi soft and comfortable to wear.
